threeOclock Collective.
Once a private space, made public, how an innovative arts program redefined public space.
threeOclock was a visual arts program that inserted itself into a large vacant space at Southgate in Melbourne’s popular Southbank. Through art and storytelling, threeOclock challenged the nature of semi-public space to influence new forms of social engagement.
With an adventurous program of public art and happenings emerging out the gallery doors and across the public spaces, over forty artists created work across seven exhibitions. Guided by researchers and knowledge makers, artists explored themes such as ‘Oceans’, ‘Refugees’ and ‘Women’. The mix of artistic responses played out across energised discussions, panel talks, workshops, education programs and events.
